Highly resistant AquaLOCK®- products: Up-and-over gates, portals, doors and flaps
AquaLOCK® High Resistance: A separate product line
For FM Global, one of the world’s leading industrial insurers with a focus on risk prevention instead of claims settlement, we improved four of our tried-and-tested products – portal, up-and-over door, door and flap – specifically for the requirements of FM Approved certification so that they can also withstand the impact of floating debris such as a tree trunk. For example, the door has been fitted with two additional shoot bolts, the flap has a total of 12 (instead of the usual 6) latches and a grid of steel struts for maximum safety, and the door panels of the portal and up-and-over door have been reinforced with additional steel profiles

FM Approved: Standardised certification tests
Two years of intensive preparation and numerous internal tests were necessary to pass the demanding FM Approved certification tests.
The certification test procedure was identical for all products:
- 10% filling of the test setup
- One hour waiting time => leakage checked
- Filling of the test setup to 100%
- 24 hours waiting time => leakage measured
- Test setup completely emptied
- Impact test with a 50 kg tree trunk cut at an angle, impact of the trunk from a height of 1.2 m
- Refilling the test setup to 10%
- One hour waiting time => leakage checked
- Refilling the test setup to 100%
- One hour waiting time => leakage checked
- Leakage must not change after the impact
The test results were more than convincing: the AquaLOCK® garage door, the door and the portal were 100 % leak-proof, with only a few drops leaking through the flap.

For the tree trunk used in the impact test, both the diagonally cut shape and the weight of 50 kg as well as the drop height of exactly 1.2 metres are precisely specified. The test log was used for all four products.

AquaLOCK® door impact test

AquaLOCK® flap impact test

AquaLOCK® up-and-over door impact test
The results: no or barely measurable leakage even after impact test
All four products passed the FM Approved test with flying colours and received the certificate. The portal, the up-and-over door and the door were still completely watertight even after the complete test procedure, with a minimal leakage of 3 ml from the flap.
